A familiar face from the NASCAR racing circuit is slated to take on the banks at a locally-renowned Vermont race track. Officials with Thunder Road International Speedbowl announced Tuesday afternoon that 2012 NASCAR Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski is scheduled to race at the Barre track this summer. “After years of hearing so much about it, I’m so excited about the opportunity to race at Thunder Road,” Keselowski wrote in a release. “I understand it is one of the country’s most iconic short tracks and my buddy Bowyer told me I’m going to love the place.” That schedule means Keselowski would likely race in Georgia the prior Sunday and race again in Vermont before traveling to New Hampshire for another NASCAR Cup Series event. He would become the fourth-ever NASCAR champion to race at the track. Thunder Road officials noted other stock car drivers like Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and Clint Bowyer have previously made appearances there. “I know this place is challenging and I understand my Cup Series colleagues haven’t had the best results in past years here, but I’m hoping we can change that trend and walk into the Cup garage at New Hampshire with some bragging rights, “Keselowski wrote. Ticket information will be announced at a later date, according to track officials. Additional information can be found by calling the Thunder Road Speedbowl offices at 802-244-6963.
