Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Mike McClure, Justin Perri, Calvin Wetzel and Larry Hartstein on Tea Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for college basketball, soccer and the NBA for Sunday, March 27.
Coach starts things off with two SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first is in the NBA: The Celtics (-6) to cover against the Timberwolves (6 p.m. ET). “The Celtics have covered in four of their last five games,” he says. “Boston is a perfect 100 percent against the spread this season when they have at least three days off.”
The second Play of the Day is in soccer: Over 1.5 goals for the United States (-150) in its 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Panama (7 p.m. ET). “The United States needs three big points to secure a top-three bid,” Coach says. “They’re motivated. They will score at least two times.”
McClure is up next with a money-line parlay in the NCAA Tournament. He likes Kansas over Miami (2:20 p.m. ET) and North Carolina over Saint Peter’s (5:05 p.m. ET) -136. “I really like the matchup for Kansas in this spot,” Mike says. “I have them with a pretty distinct rebounding advantage on both ends of the floor. I think Jalen Wilson’s going to crush them on the offensive boards and create second chances. … On the North Carolina side, I think time likely runs out on Saint Peter’s here.”
Perri follows with an NCAA Tournament prop play: Kansas (-3) to cover against Miami in the first half. “They were able to get this one done against Providence,” Justin says. “I think this Kansas team is going to come out looking great. I think this is the right way to take it because Kansas is a little bit prone to falling off at the end of the game. … I like making sure that we get that early Kansas push as our bet.”
Wetzel jumps in with a play in the Women’s NCAA Tournament. He likes Stanford (-6.5) to cover against Texas in the Elite Eight (9 p.m. ET). “Stanford, outside of those 10 minutes of basically cruise control (against Maryland) where they stopped playing, has played – in my opinion – some of the best basketball in the tournament,” Calvin says. “They did play Texas earlier in the year, and Texas barely beat them despite some of the biggest shooting variants you’ll ever see. … Stanford also wasn’t the same team at that point in the year. Stanford’s definitely the better team in this matchup.”
Hartstein switches back to the men’s Tournament to wrap things up. He’s on Miami (+6) to cover against Kansas. “I’m not saying Miami’s going to win outright, but I do think it’s going to be a tight game,” Larry says. “I think they actually have a coaching edge in this game. They have a very experienced team. Yes, they’re going to get beyondbounded, we know that. But they are going to take care of the ball. Seven turnovers per game over their last three. They don’t make mistakes, they have a lot of shot-makers. … Miami has covered 10 of its past 11 as an underdog.”
